It's amazing when you realise what you don't need. Our western consumer culture is so foreign to the idea of lack. But, when time or money or accessibility limit your ability to buy what you think you need, all of a sudden creativity takes over.
I had to stake peas at the garden but hadn't had time earlier in the day to collect or buy some. But it had to happen at a specific point in the week for non-garden reasons. Ten minutes before we were due to start, I was wandering around the garage and yard looking for anything I could use.

And all of a sudden, I could see more clearly. The overgrown and dying flax stalks were the perfect strength and straightness to make into stakes. Using a pocket knife and stripping the flax leaves, we constructed a simple but seemingly functional frame to tie up the peas.
No money needed, just a bit of necessity to fuel the creativity.
